North Manitou Island

North Manitou Island is in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in the Manitou Passage of Lake Michigan. There are fifteen thousand acres of wilderness that offer a primitive experience emphasizing solitude, a feeling of self-reliance, and a sense of exploration. Hike the dune topography, swim in Lake Michigan, look for island flora and fauna, explore the former village and ghost towns, visit the inland lakes, and learn about the island's history. Transportation to the Island is available by Manitou Transit from Leland, Michigan.
