Dune Climb and Trail

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

The Dune Climb offers a tall sand dune for your climbing pleasure with a view of Glen Lakes. There is a picnic area at the base of the Dune Climb and a Dune Center which  offers modern restrooms and a gift shop. The trail from the top of the Dune Climb takes you all the way to Lake Michigan and the round trip is 3.5 miles and may take as long as 3-4 hours depending on weather and a person's physical condition. Take lots of water and wear sunscreen. Remember that the walking is up and down the dunes in loose sand all the way so wear hiking shoes or sandals if the sand is hot from the sun. Hiking through the dunes can be disorienting, so be sure to keep children within sight and if hiking with a group, agree on a destination before leaving.
