Esch Road Beach

Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore

Esch Road Beach is located in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore and is at the mouth of Otter Creek at Lake Michigan. The creek outlet to Lake Michigan can move north or south depending on the wave action. Parking is along the road with restroom facilities. This is the site of the former little logging village of Aral with an interpretive sign that describes the logging activities that made this an active logging town and port.

The Otter Creek Loop is a 4.6 mile loop and part of the Platte Plains Trail that combines the trail, a segment of Bass Lake Loop and portions of the Aral and Deer Lake Roads which are narrow, seasonal two tracks. This is a major bird and wildlife watching area.
